Over 60 Jazz Bands compete for points to earn a spot within the Iowa jazz Championships during the 65th Tallcorn Jazz Festival put on by the Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia chapter. UNI Director of Jazz Studies Christopher Merz expresses that the festival has always been about education. A guest artists was brought on to perform and teach the students more about Jazz Music Performance, Myra Melford an instructor at U.C Berkley and winner of a Guggenheim Fellowship was selected.
