10/12/2017 A mastodon tusk found in a gravel pit in 1933 and acquired by Dr. Cable of the museum is set to be restored thanks to a grant by the Roy J. Carver Charitable Trust. It has been held by the museum for 100 years, but was taken off display in the 1960's due to conservation issues. Museum assistant director and chief curator Nathan Arndt, conservator Laura Kubick, student Ellie Akers, professor Josh Sebree and his class, and librarian Anne Marie Gruber are working together on a restoration plan; photo.

9/14/2017 The university's Center for Urban Education (UNI-CUE) has developed the Discover the Dream mentoring program to help fifth grade students prepare for middle school. Sixth-grade students in UNI-CUE's Leadership Academy will be mentors; schools involved include Lincoln, Highland and Walter Cunningham. Students must be part of Educational Talent Search (ETS), a program that includes many activities and mentoring from UNI students from the Black Student Union (BSU), Center for Multicultural Education (CME), and Hispanic/Latino Student Union; photo.
