1 Dr. Delbert Bates, of the education department at Iowa State Teachers college, has been ordered to Andrews Air Force Base, Washington, D. C. Active in the air force reserves, Bates will report at the base Monday, May 21, for a week of processing and reclassification.
2 Graduation activities for 36 seniors at Teachers college high school will begin with the junior-senior prom Friday, May 18, in the women's club house. The May Queen, a senior elected by the students, will be crowned at the prom and presented an orchid lei flown from Hawaii. A four-day senior trip to Chicago is planned for May 23-26. Seniors listed.
3 Max Probosco, Chariton high school student, will serve as 1951-52 state president of Future Business Leaders of America The state's high school chapters recently held their fifth annual meeting at the college. Other state officers elected at the meeting include Bill Linthicun of the Creston chapter, vice-president, and Carroll Davis of Cedar Falls chapter. Students Listed.
4 Mothers of the sixth grade students at the Iowa State Teachers college campus school will be guests at a May breakfast Tuesday, May 22 The students will prepare and serve the breakfast in their home room at the campus school. The teacher in charge is Irvin Ramsey. Committee chairman for the breakfast are Priscilla Hake, Frederick Volker, Tamara Galloway, and Nancy VanEngen.
5 New officers for Campus 4-H at Iowa State Teachers college were elected recently The officers are: Louise Gustafson, Harcourt, president; Marilyn Altemeier, Liscomb, vice-president; Phyllis Godfrey, Jamaica, secretary, and Ann Hamilton, Elkader, treasurer.
6 New officers have been elected by the Iowa State Teachers college chapter of Beta Beta Beta, national honorary biological science fraternity The officers are: Joe Morgan, Mt. 10 Postponement of the college presentation of Mendelssohn's oratorio, "Elijah," was announced today by college officials Originally scheduled for Sunday afternoon, May 20, the oratorio will be performed Nov. 18 as a 75th anniversary commemoration event. The congestion of numerous spring activities amongst students, faculty, and community is the reason for the postponement.
11 Results of a seven-year study will be put into action this summer when a new teacher preparation curriculum is introduced Dean Nelson describes the four main objectives of the new program as good citizenship, adequate specialization, teaching skill, and a professional attitude. The new program means contact with school children throughout the four years.
12 The 75th annual Commencement exercises will be held June 2 at 9:30 a.m. in the Men's gymnasium President J. W. Maucker will present the traditional Purple and Old Gold awards to graduates outstanding in scholarship and extra-curricular achievement. He'll also name the winners of ten special scholarships.
