1 Brindley High School Discussion and Debate to be held Friday (Jan. 25) Seventy-two students from 11 Iowa high schools registered at the opening of the two-day event. The conference and awards are named in the memory of the late W. A. Brindley, professor of public speaking at the college from 1927 - 1933.
2 Opening of the Hallmark show of f20 original paintings will be held Sunday, Jan. 27, in the arts and industries building The group of paintings to be shown consists of prize-winning entries and selected works from an international competition held in 1949, sponsored by Hallmark Greeting Card company with the cooperation of the Wildenstein Galleries of Paris and New York.
3 Opening of the Hallmark show to be held Sunday, January 27 The American section is well represented by several of the finest contemporary painters in the United States. Included in the display are Stephen Hirsh's "Journey" and Mitchell Siporin's "Boy with Toys" which received the second American prize.
4 Seventy-two students from 11 Iowa high schools registered for the annual Brindley High School Discussion and debate conference The conference is sponsored by the college English and Speech department. Each student will participate in four rounds of debate, three of discussion and one of extemporaneous speaking.
5 Special To: Cedar Falls Record Katherine Adamson, Lavonne Gross, and Jerry Leeper, are working on the scenery and costume crews for the winter play, "Hedda Gabbler" by Henrik Ibsen. Adamson nad Gross are both majoring in speech and drama.
