1 Joan Otting of Traer named UNI Parent of the Year Joan Otting was named as Parent of the Year in 1986 by the Parents Association. Otting, a mother of eight, made the choice to go to college after the death of her husband, nearly twenty-five years after graduating high school.
2 UNI individual events team takes second place at Mankato Invitational A team of university students participated in the Mankato State Invitational Tournament. The team was coached by Pofessor Mary Ann Renz and Rich West. Students competed in persuasive speaking, as well as dramatic and musical performances.
3 UNI Parents' Weekend Oct. 24-26 theatre, open houses, football offered Students were given the opportunity to teach their parents about campus life, and to meet their friends and professors. The weekend featured, athletic events, performances in music and dance, and open houses with various colleges.
4 UNI rugby team commended for efforts to help Baxter tornado victims University rugby players carried nursing home residents to shelter when the town of Baxter was struck by a tornado after a match in Newton. When the storm died, the team helped the Baxter disaster team block roads to areas that had been destroyed.
