1 'What's happening in genetics' biology update set for April 3 at UNI A workshop on human genetics, evolution, and biotechnology was held in Lantz Auditorium in McCollum Science Hall. 5 Small increase in UNI residence hall rates approved by Regents; parietal rule continues on suspension The Board of Regents votes to increase rates for residents halls by 3.49 percent. The Board also moved to continue suspension of the parietal rule, which would require unmarried freshman and sophomores to live within the residence halls.
6 Students encouraged to apply for variety of natural science scholarships The College of Natural Science offers a series of scholarships in honor of Cyrus W. Lantz, former head of the Department of Science. Applicants must have been admitted to graduate study, and carry a course load between five and eight credits.
7 UNI prof to participate in 'World Home Economics Day' proclamation Professors Phyllis Conklin and Agatha Huepenbecker met with Governor Terry Branstad to formally announce the birth of Home Economics Day, which takes place on the thirteenth of March. Phi Epsilon Omicron, a home economics honorary, celebrated on campus.
8 UNI professor to preside over annual state home economics meeting, April 3-4 Professor Phyllis Conklin presides over the Iowa Home Economics Association's annual meeting. Professor Joanne Spaide presented a session on nutrition, and Professor Mary Franken presented a session on home economics internships with Lynne Beykirch.
9 UNI residence halls continue to offer 'total living environment' at low rates Room and board rates of the residence halls are increased by 3.49 percent, the lowest increase from the three state universities. Students express the benefits of living on campus, such as dining services, and the Redeker Center's computer lab.
