1 'Last of the Mandarins: Chinese calligraphy and painting' on exhibit through Feb. 25 in the University of Northern Iowa Gallery of Art Chang Fu-yun's collection of Chinese calligraphy and paintings are exhibited in the Kamerick Art Building for their only Midwest showing. The collection was organized by the Arthur M. Sackler Museum of Harvard University.
2 Northern Iowa biology students commended for their scholarship Twelve students of Professor Daryl Smith's General Biology I are granted letters of commendation for their exceptional academic performance. Three of these students are Presidential or Merit Scholars. Recipients are listed by hometown.
3 Northern Iowa graduates may apply for Merchant Scholarships for advanced study Bachelor's degree graduates may apply for Merchant Scholarships to study at any professional or graduate school across the country, or abroad. 4 University of Northern Iowa announces statewide essay competition High school seniors are eligible for one-year tuition scholarships, Professor Geraldine LaRocque offers an award to Freshman writers, and Robert Ward offers the James Hearst scholarship through the Student as Critic Essay Competition.
5 University of Northern Iowa English professor to lecture in Spain Professor Robert J. Ward is invited to Spain to lecture on poets of the Midwest, including UNI's James Hearst. Ward is a former Fulbright scholar, and has worked in Romania, Spain, and Canada.
