1 Mudslinging on the tube- every four years whether we need it or not. Dennis Clayson says negative ads may change attitudes if voters can't decide which canidate to support. Many times negative attacks confusr voters and such ads overlook important issues.
2 Predicting the weather via 'Old Farmer's Almanac' not always reliable. Walt DeKock says the Almanac's forecast for this year has been way off. The weather guide's popularity is based on a long ago, wild prediction of snow in July, that actually happened.
3 The greatest economic calamity that never happened. On October 19 of 1987, the stock market took its worst one day tumble in history. Fred Abraham says the market has rebounded largely because people have confidence in stocks as a way to make money.
4 The right to vote-why 1/2 of those eligible won't make it to the polls. Robert Ross says that Americans have lost faith in the government's ability to solve problems. One way to get more people into the voting booths could be a revision of voter registration laws.
5 Work ethic of Iowans credited as luring new businesses to the state. Wylie Anderson shows a dependable work force is what companies want. Anderson says a surprise finding of his research was that the weather and quality of life factors aren't ranked by new businesses.
