1 215 high school vocalists to attend University of Northern Iowa vocal arts festival and conductor's symposium. (Feb. 25 and 26) List of students participating in this year's festival. The festival brings together top vocalists from 38 high schools, and their directors, for a two-day intensive music making and learning experience. This year's guest conductor is Larry Wyatt.
2 Foreign language not just for those going into international business says University of Northern Iowa professor. Studies have shown that nine out of ten Americans cannot speak, read or effectively understand any language but English. Jim Becker says studying a foreign language gives people communicative competence.
3 More than 600 educators and school officials to attend 13th Annual Midwest Overseas recruiting fair at the University of Northern Iowa Feb. 25-26. The two-day fair had been a leader in helping teachers find positions with schools in Asia, Europe, South and Central America, Africa and the Middle East. An applicant must be certified elementary or secondary teacher.
4 University of Northern Iowa to offer Tom Pettit Scholarships to Journalism Students. Scholarships were funded by Tom Pettit, a 1953 UNI graduate and an award winning reporter for NBC. An applicant must be either beginning junior or senior year, have completed six hours of credit in journalism courses, attend UNI in 1989 fall semester.
