1 A sign of the times-- more people are learning sign language. A number of colleges and universities in the U.S. have allowed students to study sign language to meet foreign language requirements. Hugo Beykirch says different signing systems are used throughout the world.
2 Answering the question: What did you learn in school today? Parents shouldn't be concerned if the answer is "nothing." Ann Vernon says there are ways to get kid s to talk about their school day. It's a good idea for parents to make school visits, and talk with teachers about class activities.
3 Black history month activities are continuing at the University of Northern Iowa. Northern Iowa Gospel Choir will perform. Activities will conclude with a "Soul and Louisiana Cuisine Dinner."

5 Presidential leadership in USA celebrates a birthday. President's Day, observed during the month of both George Washington, and Abraham Lincoln's birthdays. Don Whitnah, says this year celebrates the 200th anniversary of the Presidency.
6 Two-thirds of the U.S. population is math illiterate. U.S. teens recently rated last in an international math survey. Jack Wilkinson, says poor math skills are a threat to the nation's productivity. In the past the focus has been on math skills, and not on advanced problem solving.
7 University of Northern Iowa's 'Renewal' to acquaint Iowa's business owners and community leaders with Iowa's 'one-stop shop' for economic development. "Renewal has been designed to give business and community leaders an overveiw of services available to them at Northern Iowawhile providing them with specific examples of what types of assistance these centers have provided in the past.
8 Unused farm chemicals pose dangerous threat to environment. Kim Gunderson says a state wide plan to deal with chemical waste is in the works. A statewide collection plan may be the answer.
