1 Carroll senior at University of Northern Iowa receives 1988 Residence Hall Association (RHA) Gold Star Award. Theresa Koster recently recognized for her outstanding contributions to residence hall government. Koster is a senior management major, was the president of the Residence Hall Association, and has been a resident assistant in Dancer Hall.

The best way to deal with this emotion is to tackle it aggressively, and not let it build.

4 Increasing the minimum wage -- winners, losers, and political fallout. Dennis Clayson says there could be some political and economic fallout whether or not the wage is raised. He says politicians have the most to gain from the legislation, and adds this type of law often hurts the people it was designed to help.
5 Mini gardening has become a bonsai bonanza. Interest in the art of bonsai gardening has risen over the past decade. Craig Gibleon says the art of shaping miniature trees and shrubs is a spin off of people's increased interest in landscaping.
6 Running and walking to better fitness. Jane Asimus says people who haven't jogged or long distance walked since fall need to take it slow and easy for a few weeks to avoid injury.
7 Two Dubuque students at University of Northern Iowa receive 1988 Residence Hall Association (RHA) Gold Star Awards. Becky Dillon a senior majoring in social science, was a resident assistant in Lawther Hall, a desk assistant at Dancer Hall. Lisa Raine, a sophmore majoring in political science, served as the vice president and president of Lannie House in Hageman Hall.
8 University of Northern Iowa announces informal meeting for master of arts in education program in Storm Lake. Continuing Education is considering bringing 13 courses needed for the M.A.E. Program, to Storm Lake. Purpose of meeting is to explain to prospective students details of the M.A.E.
9 University of Northern Iowa's Residence Hall Association (RHA) Assembly awards three students 1988 Gold Star Award for Outstanding Service. Theresa Koster and Becky Dillon and Lisa Raine were chosen for their "excellence in quality of contributions to residence system in 1988," according to Drake Martin.
10 Who's teaching our kids? Fewer minority teachers. Richard Strub says a new minorities in teaching program at UNI is working to train and employ minority teachers in Iowa. This innovative approach to "grow your own" teachers is one of only a few such programs in existence.
