1 If you love golf or hate golf, you'll probably love Frisbee golf. The object is to throw the Frisbee from a designated tee to a basket in the fewest number of throws. Computer science professor, Tom Hausmann, is a disc golf enthusiast and says the professional Disc Golf World Championships will be held at UNI this year.
2 Kindergarten -- the first step of the educational process -- 152 years old. The first kindergarten was started in Germany in 1837 by Friedrich Froebel. Charles May says there have been many changes in kindergarten classes, but says education experts believe it is one of the most important steps of the educational ladder.
3 Math problems - do you still add on your fingers and rely on the calculator? This week is National Mathematics Awareness Week, Jack Wilkinson, project director for a national math teachers institute, says it's not all that big a problem if we rely on calculators and computers to solve our daily math dilemmas.
4 Political changes on the way due to a loss in Iowa's population. Tom Ryan says the state's declining population will most likely mean that we will lose one congressman after the census results are in.
5 Tobacco, oil spills, auto safety, bailing out banks -- consumer concerns. Ralph Nader addressed the issue of student activism, but also had plenty to say about issues ranging from the recent Valdez oil spill to auto safety.
6 University of Northern Iowa to host conference on reform in teacher education for University deans and presidents, May 1-3. The purpose of this working conference is to examine the current agenda for teacher education reform and develop a proactive approach to future reforms, said Thomas Switzer.
