1 As the end of school draws closer another school begins ... driver's ed. Bob Roush, a consultant with the Iowa Department of Education, says standards for driver's ed are changing. One thing that has changed, the "DRIVER"S EDUCATION" sign on the side of the car is often dropped, to give students realistic driving experiences.
2 Keepin' it green can take a lot of green $$$ if ya know what I mean. Steve Ubben says people have unrealistic expectations foe their lawns, and adds that it will take some extra care this spring to overcome damage that was created by last year's drought.
3 Knoxville high school wins outstanding chapter award at annual technology student association competition. Jeremy Meyer of Knoxvile accpets the trophy for Outstanding Chapter of the Year on behalf of the Knoxville High School chapter of Technology Student Association.
4 Technology student competitive events winners announced. List of winners of the different competitive events. Knoxville High School named the Outstanding Technology Student Association Chapter in Iowa for the 1988-89 school year at the group's awards ceremony during the annual Technology Challenge.
5 The air pollution problem -- acid rain concerns increase. What we're pumping out of coal fired power plants is returning hundreds of thousands miles away, as acid rain. Virginia Berg says solving the problem won't be easy or come in the near future.
6 The refreshness factor -- what's best to drink? There's really no need for specialty drinks. Forrest Dolenger says water works just as well, and doesn't contain calories that many of these concoctions include.
7 Twin doctor of industrial technology graduates robed at University of Northern Iowa's commencement ceremonies, Saturday (May 13.) John and Joe Gindele have been following in each other's footsteps for nearly 45 years and on Saturday took that similarity one step further as they graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with degrees of Doctor of Industrial Technology.
8 University of Northern Iowa emeritus professor Dr. Fred Lott wins national award. Fred Lott an emeritus professor of mathematics, was recently presented with the George R. Mach Distinguished Service Award from Kappa Mu Epsilon, mathematics honor society.
9 University of Northern Iowa students initiated into sociology honorary. Larina Noe Bland, Peggy Chari, Douglas Gentry, Lori Schwarzkof and Deborah Carstensen were recently initiated into Alpha Kappa Delta, an internaional sociological honor society.
10 University of Northern Iowa's department of industrial technology graduates twin doctoral students at Spring commencement, May 13. Joe and John Gindele display their doctoral research papers, the last leg of their journey toward degrees of Doctor of Industrial Technology.
