1 1924 University of Northern Iowa alumnae visits for 65th reunion. Mildred Yearous Woodworth graduated from the University of Northern Iowa in 1924, she returned recently for her 65th reunion. Members of the Class of 1929 also celebrated their 60th reunion.
2 NSF awards grant to University of Northern Iowa earth science department for computerized telescope controller. The grant of $5,225 will be used to purchase a computerized telescope controller that will make it easier to move and point the existing telescope.
3 Story tips- heat stress. Barbara Krieg says heat illnesses can range from heat exhaustion, to heat stroke, which can result in death. Symptoms for heat related illnesses typically include dehydration, weakness, headache, high fever with dry skin, and a rapid heartbeat.
4 Story tips- osteoporosis. Joanne Spaide says statistics show that between 15-20 millions Americans suffer from the disease, and of these, 30,000 die each year. In order to prevent the disease it is important to have adequate calcium intake as a child and live a healthy lifestyle.
5 Story tips- RAGBRAI. Tim Klatt and Susann Doody both agree that to truly enjoy RAGBRAI one must be in good physical shape and the only way to do that is by training. Klatt says that one must establish goals for the trip.
6 Story tips- TV programming. Sharon Smaldino says television can still be used as a learning tool. Getting kids to become active viewers, making them think about what they are watching and how it affects them , television can be used to stimulate thought.
