Akira Iriye, a Stein-Freiler Distinguished Service Professor of History, currently teaching at the University of Chicago will address the topic "Culture in International Affairs."

7 Governor Branstad presents Iowa waste reduction education awards to winners of competition sponsored by Iowa waste reduction center. The three award winning companies; The HON Company of Muscatine, Rockwell International of Cedar Falls, and Enviromiser of Cedar Falls reduced emission of industrial wastes and saved their companies thousands of dollars in operating costs.
8 Governor presents hazardous waste reduction award to Enviromiser. Richard Klein was one of the winners of the 1989 Iowa Waste Reduction Awards for his air conditioning coolant recycling project, which can recycle up to 95% of the coolant contained in large institutional and industrial cooling systems.
9 Governor presents waste reduction award to HON Company. Don Schlimmer nominated the winning HON project which has reduced the company's emission of hazardous waste from 62 to 2.5 tons of sludge per year, saving HON $89,250 annually.
10 Governor presents waste reduction award to Rockwell. Rockwell International's winning project segregated waste streams and recovered metal from waste water in metal finishing operations, resulting in annual cost savings projected at $250,000.
11 Iowa waste reduction awards presented by governor. Winners of the 1989 Iowa Waste Reduction Awards Competition recently received their plaques and words of congratulation from Iowa governor Terry Branstad at the Capitol Building in Des Moines.
