1 Handicapped people in America suffer from highest unemployment of any protected minority, and rate may be growing, says University of Northern Iowa pr Ron Anderson says, "In the past ten years, we've seen a major deterioration of national focus on civil rights for persons with disabilities (PWDs). PWDs are the lowest paid group in the United States, and have the highest unemployment rate 50-75%."
2 Helping children learn to deal with difficult social problems is objective of grant sought by Price Laboratory school instructor. Carl Bollwinkel is seeking funds for a project. "The purpose of this project is to train teachers to guide young citizens to make wise decisions about science-related societal issues, and develop the skills which help them act on those issues."
3 Visiting African professor prods University of Northern Iowa students to "come out of their houses." Kofi Opoku is a native of Ghana, a small west African nation of 11 million. This semester, he is visiting professor of religion at UNI, teaching class in religions of the world, and another in traditional African religions.
