4 Nominations being accepted for second annual Iowa Waste Reduction Awards, sponsored by Iowa Waste Reduction Center at University of Northern Iowa The Iowa Waste Reduction Center accepts nominations for the annual Iowa Waste Reduction Award. The one-thousand dollar prize will go to the business or industry believed to have devised the most efficient waste reduction system.
5 Prairie landscaping seminar to be offered through University of Northern Iowa Biology Seminar Series, beginning Jan. 23 Pauline Drobney and Scott Bryant instruct a course on landscape design using flora native to the prairie. Sessions are held in McCollum Science Hall through the Biology Seminar Series.
6 Sidestepping political issues--the ramifications of addressing abortion Professor Robert Ross discusses political candidates' avoidance of abortion while campaigning. Ross states that such sensitive issues are not likely to be addressed until late in the election.
7 Vitamin C---wonder drug or worthless cure? Claims examined. Professor Joanne Spaide warns against the consumption of high doses of vitamins which may lead to serious health concerns.
8 Why do students feel disconnected from the political process? Blame parents. Professor Stephen Rose serves on a study advisory commission, surveying teachers who report their students' lack of knowledge of the political process.
