1 Beating the mid-winter blahs means more than just saying "cheer-up." Ken Jacobsen says seasonal affective disorder, while sometimes referred to as "cabin fever," goes beyond what is traditionally thought of as cabin fever and is caused by lack of sunshine.
2 Exotic locations, new cultures, and students await teachers. More than 750 teachers from all over the world and 116 representatives of overseas schools will meet on the Northern Iowa campus Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 17 and 18.

Veterans of the Viet Nam War who belong to a Waterloo vets support group spent hours reliving their experiences for Marilyn Shaw. Shaw wove their comments, shreds of poetry, and lyrics from their favorite '60s songs into a interpreters theatre script.
6 Multi-cultural, non-sexist education helps students adjust to diverse society. Making teachers and students aware of biases is the goal of multi-cultural , non-sexist education. Bias intentional or not, resulted in education materials which ignored or played down the accomplishments of women or people from non-European cultures.
7 Northern University High School students taking play about "AIDS" to area schools. Cleve Jones founder of the AIDS Memorial Quilt/NAMES Project, received an invitation to a private performance of an interpretive theater piece called "Threads, Needles and Patches," by seven 11th grade students at Price Lab School.
8 The swimsuit issues are out, but will they hit the shelves? It's called self-censorship, and occurs when a librarian or other "official" removes a book, magazine, or any other form of media from a library collection.
9 UNI students present theatre piece on Viet Nam. Cast members of "Iowa Stories: The Viet Nam Experience" rehearse in preparation. The piece is based on interviews with 27 Iowa Viet Nam War Vets who belong to a Waterloo support group.
10 UNI students present theatre piece on Viet Nam. Director Marilyn Shaw, said the purpose of the piece is to tell about the war from the point of view of local vets, many of whom told her no one had asked them about their experiences in 25 years.
11 Vietnam veterans experiences told by students through dramatic theatre. Communications instructor, Marilyn Shaw interviewed 27 Vietnam veterans in the Waterloo-Cedar Falls, area and has completed an interpretive theater production of their experiences.
