1 Bedtime can mean power struggles unless parents set specific rules Professor Ann Vernon works with parents to set appropriate rules and routines regarding their children's sleep schedule. She believes that children with flimsy sleep schedules may suffer in school and be more likely to misbehave.
2 Hazardous waste reduction course for metal finishers in May, promoted by Iowa Waste reduction Center at University of Northern Iowa The Iowa Waste Reduction Center and Iowa Department of Natural Resources sponsor a day-long workshop promoting the safe disposal of waste by metal finishing companies in Iowa.
3 History Lecture at University of Northern Iowa will explore divorce in the American West (April 18) Professor Glenda Riley presents "Divorce in the American West" in the North Room of Maucker Union. Riley has served as director of the Women's Studies Program, and has been the recipient of the Fulbright and Distinguished Scholar awards.
4 Home Economics student receives $1000 scholarship Pamela J. Gibbons is selected as the Letitis Walsh scholarship by the Department of Home Economics. The scholarship is granted to home economics students based on grade point average and their thesis project.
5 Long-term employees to be recognized at University of Northern Iowa April 21 Twenty-four university retirees are honored at the annual Recognition Breakfast in the Commons. Those honored have spent at least ten years of service to the University. Tickets are made available through the Controller's Office.
6 Montclaire Quartet to perform Monday (April 16): Will be Artists-in-Residence at University of northern Iowa through 1992 The School of Music, Waterloo/Cedar Falls Symphony, and the R. J. McElroy Trust Foundation sponsor the Montclaire Quartet for the Artists-in-Residence program. The Quartet will perform in Russell Hall.
7 Northern Iowa youth librarian receives "Intellectual Freedom Award" from Iowa Educational Media Association Lucille Lettow is granted the Intellectual Freedom Award at the Iowa Educational Media Association Conference. Lettow was given the one-thousand dollar award based on her work in the Intellectual Freedom Committee.
8 Reception (Monday) April 16 in Sioux City for students admitted to University of Northern Iowa The Holiday Inn of Sioux City hosts a reception and orientation program on financial aid and student life at UNI for students admitted for the 1990 academic year. Lori Culbertson, Lyle Schwarzenbach, Samantha Pieters, and Cori McNeilus participate.
9 UNI Home-Ec students awarded scholarships for academic excellence Nellie Dickey scholarships are awarded to Aimee Kingery, Susan Potter, and Terri Swacker. The awards are distributed to juniors based on grade point average and involvement with student activities.
