1 A friendly food fight that may save your life look at what you're eating. Researchers have proven that some of the foods we eat can prevent or greatly reduce the risk of some cancers from occurring. This year marks the first Great American Food Fight, sponsored by the American Cancer Society.
2 A lush green weed-free lawn may be hazardous to your health. Many consumers are worried about all of the gunk that's sprayed on lawns. John Konefes says people need to develop a tolerance level for some lawn problems, since many people have reported health problems that may be related to lawn care chemicals.
3 Astronomers anxiously await the launch of the Hubble space telescope. Tom Hockey says the successful deployment of the Hubble telescopes will be a landmark in the study of the universe. He says earth telescopes have the problem of looking through earth's own atmosphere, which causes distortion.
4 Australian author/educator, Gov. Branstad speakers for 22nd annual beginning reading conference Friday (April 21) at University of Northern Iowa. Mem Fox's topic of discussion will be "If Good Writers Steal and Bad Writers Borrow, Where Do the Good Writers Steal From?" Terry Branstad will speak on "Goals of American Education."
5 Back to school workshop for adults scheduled for May 5 at University of Northern Iowa The University of Northern Iowa offers a comprehensive system of resources for non-traditional students, introducing them through regular Back-to-School Workshops.

Another will address "Writing Skills for college," and another "Study Skills for College." Informational morning sessions will acquaint participants with Student Services divisions.
7 Sac City junior at UNI excels in ROTC. Brian Martin is a member of the Ranger Company of the Reserve Officers Training Corps and a resident assistant in Shull Hall.
8 Sac City junior at University of Northern Iowa works as resident assistant, trains in ROTC. In addition to his work as an RA, Brian Martin has spent three years in the Army Reserve Officer Training Corps. He is a member of the elite Ranger Company at UNI; only 10 of the more than 40 ROTC cadets at UNI qualify for that group.
9 UNI professor in search of bone marrow donors. Vicki Trent-Wilson is on a search to find a bone marrow donor for a close friend. Since bone marrow matches are hard to find (it may take up to 20 thousand people to find a match) it's important that more people sign up to become donors.
10 University of Northern Iowa to host 1,000 high school students for 26th annual model united nations Thursday-Saturday. (April 19-21) The Model U.N. reflects the functions of the real international body, with high school students serving as delegates from their respective countries which they have researched throughout the year.
11 Vroom- vroom- spring brings mopeds to streets near you. Jerry Stewart is teaching moped safety class at Northern Iowa and says of the 368 reported moped accidents in 1988, a majority of them happened on the straight and narrow, open road.
