1 An informational meeting for proposed graduate degree offered by the University of Northern Iowa to be held in Estherville Wednesday (May 16). Curriculum planned for obtaining a degree in one of the following four academic areas: elementary education, early childhood education, education of the gifted and middle/junior high education.
2 Informational meeting on nine prospective graduate degree programs to be held Tuesday (May 12) at the NICC campus in Calmar. Faculty will provide information about UNI graduate education in the areas of educational administration, counseling, special education, elementary education, early childhood education, middle school/junior high school education, and gifted education.
3 Northern Iowa geography professor wins Fulbright scholarship to Malaysia. Murray Austin will spend five months in Malaysia beginning next December, as the recipient of a Fulbright Lectorship at the Universiti Sons Malaysia in Penang.
4 Three bonsai classes to be offered in the University of Northern Iowa Iowa biology seminar series; first is May 19. Beginning Bonsai course is designed to acquaint the beginning student with the art of bonsai. Demonstations of planting, pruning, wiring and watering and will cover such topics as selection of materials and the different stlyes of bonsai plants.
5 Three University of Northern Iowa alumni named merchant scholarship winners. David Swanson, Roger Eich, and Alicia Lateer win Merchant Scholarship.
6 Top science teacher in state honored by Iowa Academy of Sciences. Seven Iowa science teachers have been honored by the Iowa Academy of Sciences as recipients of the 1990 Excellence in Science Teaching Awards. Teachers and schools listed.
7 University of Northern Iowa to offer curriculum education course in Calmar. Designed for K-9 teachers, the course will deal with curriculum development and public school curriculum. It is a required course in the UNI Master's degree program in elementary education, gifted education, early childhood education and middle school.
