1 Helping parents help their kids- parental education. Anne Federlein believes parents need to be more aware of how their kids learn, and how they can help their children through the learning process. She says parents often don't realize how much power they have in shaping their child academically.
2 Here come the sum- experts advise staying in the shade. Joan Thompson says health officials are recommending that it be used on small children no matter how long they are exposed to sunlight. A major cause for concern, especially since many people are not taking precautions.
3 New program in Iowa helps students and non-profit agencies. The new program provides Iowa college students with funding for internships with Iowa non-profit agencies. Allan Stamberg says non-profit agencies usually run on extremely tight budgets, and can't afford to hire additional workers.
4 Surviving the first year of college- getting a good start is crucial. Drake Martin's advice to students is to come prepared to learn, grow personally, and avoid becoming trapped into first year pitfalls.

Legislators are getting paperwork ready and lengthy debate is guaranteed to follow as legislators draw up a Constitutional flag protection amendment. Tom Ryan says it will be a major task to get such an amendment tacked on to the Constitution.
8 UNI-AOP honors administrator, installs new officers and recognizes retirees. Elton Green professor of physical education and director of the UNI Wellness Program, as its educator/administrator of the year for 1989-90. Green joined UNI faculty in 1968 and will retire at the end of the 1990 summer session.
9 University of Northern Iowa business education honorary elects officers, presents awards. New officers are listed and scholarships awarded.
10 University of Northern Iowa gives more than 120 students on-the-job experience through summer co-op placements. List of students participating in the program and where they are working.
