1 Battle of the bug- a bumper crop of mosquitoes are on their way. Nixon Wilson says this year will be a bad bug year- eggs that didn't hatch last year because of dry weather will hatch out this year. Wilson says your best defense is to use repellents and wear light colored clothing.
2 Buying a bike? There are a lot of options on the tour de purchase. Tim Klatt competes in triathlons, and says there are many options when it comes to finding the right bike. He recommends doing some research and shopping at a reputable dealership.
3 Dr. Roy Saigo, Dean of University of Northern Iowa College of Natural Sciences, accepts position as Provost at Southeastern Louisiana University Roy Saigo looking forward to living in the South and the new challenges of serving as Provost. Saigo has recruited excellent faculty members for the College of Natural Sciences.
4 How reliable are those movie ratings? Parental decisions. Sharon Smaldino has definite views about what our kids should and shouldn't be watching. Parents not only need to be aware of the movies subject matter, but should be prepared to discuss aspects of what's being watched with their children.
5 Kaboom kaboom! 4th of July fireworks began in China. Charles Holcombe, says the invention of fireworks is credited to the Chinese, who invented gunpowder. Today's firecrackers haven't changed that much from those used almost 2,000 years ago.
6 Scuba to Aruba- but take some diving lessons first. Glen Henry says the best diving adventures he's been on have taken place in the ocean, however there are some spots in Iowa that are pretty good. While more people are taking up the sport, Henry says it's not an inexpensive hobby.
7 University of Northern Iowa student teachers will learn to teach math and science better as a result of summer workshop for field supervisors Thirty five cooperating teachers from five of the student teaching centers gained new skills to help in their work during a campus workshop. Math and science skills were addressed.
