1 Candlelight vigil for National Higher Education Week and mock trial on OWI for National Alcohol Awareness Week James Busch and Karen Thalaker will participate in the mock trial activities. Students will join in a candlelight vigil to protest a proposed tuition increase.
2 Children's Technology Workshop to be held at the UNI Industrial Technology Center October 19 Area children ages 5-9 will participate in the Children's Technology Workshop at UNI.
3 Environmental fundraiser Aluminum cans are being collected to raise funds for scholarships and to hire a waste reduction specialist to work with students, faculty, and staff for a year.
4 Helping handicapped preschoolers A program to coordinate services for handicapped preschoolers aims at keeping them in regular classrooms as long as possible.
5 Recycling used fishing line The Berkeley Company of Spirit Lake is making plastic pellets from old fishing line.
6 Rural Waste Reduction Program Five NE Iowa rural counties are conducting a waste prevention and disposal project with the help of the Iowa Waste Reduction Center. This program will serve as model for other counties.
