1 'Who Leads? Congress and the President in the American System' topic for Hoxie Forum Former U. S. representatives Bill Burlison and Phil English will discuss "Who Leads? The moderator will be Scott Peters, professor of political science. The forum is part of a two-day visit for the Congress to Campus program.
2 Apples, cheese and comedy featured at Sept. 19 ACRE event The Cedar Falls Annual Community Read for the Environment will be at Hartman Reserve Nature Center. Attendees can sample apples from local orchards, help make apple cider and learn to make cheese from professor Jack Yates.
3 Expert speaker on 'peak oil' at CEEE Sept. 23 Richard Heinberg, renowned expert on the topic of peak oil will speak at the Center for Energy and Environmental Education. Peak oil is the term used for the point in time in which global oil production has reached its peak, and begins a decline.
4 Free seasonal flu vaccinations available for UNI students All students are encouraged to get a vaccination for the seasonal flu. This is not a vaccination for the H1N1 flu, but having it will help the overall population at UNI remain healthier.
5 Free seasonal flu vaccinations available for UNI studentss Two thousand seasonal flu vaccinations will be available to students free of charge. The flu vaccinations will be available on a first-come, first-served basis for students only. This is not a vaccination for the H1N1 flu.
6 UNI leads Iowa NASA research initiative Iowa researchers are invited to apply for funding for projects of interest to NASA and the state of Iowa under a NASA program to strengthen research and education in science and engineering.
7 UNI to host presentation on cross-cultural sexuality Sexual attitudes, practices and behaviors and how they vary by culture, will be the focus of a lecture presented by Janell Carroll, a prominent national speaker, sexologist and author. The lecture is called "Sex Around the World."
8 UNI's CEEE presents Solar/Energy Efficiency Tour in five communities on Oct. 4 The home tours will feature: solar hot water systems, photovoltaics (solar electric), ground source heat pumps, insulated concrete form construction and energy efficiency.
