1 Iowa Smoking Cessation Services help to 'Kick the Habit'
UNI research shows 20 percent of clients not smoking up to a year after starting program
The Center for Social and Behavioral Research presented the results of state-funded smoking cessation services to the Iowa Tobacco Commission in Des Moines in late September
2 Panther Festival to be held Oct. 17 This year's Panther Festival will take place at the southwest corner of West 23rd and College Streets. A stationary parade will be held, allowing student organizations to showcase their creativity.
3 UNI professor to give lecture on history of corpses on Oct. 14 "Service after death: the political use of corpses" is the title of a lecture to be given by Thomas Connors in Seerley Hall. The lecture will explore the effect that the dead have on the legitimacy of governments.

5 UNI selected as one of 'Best Business Schools' by Princeton Review Princeton Review recommends UNI as one of the best institutions to earn an MBA. This is the fourth consecutive year the school has received this recommedation.
6 UNI to host professional development day for 1,000 teachers Malcolm Price Laboratory School will host the second annual professional development day for 16 school districts that are in the North Iowa Cedar League. This year's theme is the "Iowa Core Curriculum: Characteristics of Effective Instruction."
7 UNI, IWRC hosts surface coating '6H' rule workshop in Waterloo A free workshop regarding the new Environmental Protection Agency surface coating rule will take place at 6 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 15, in Tama Hall, at Hawkeye Community College in Waterloo.
8 Winners announced in John Pappajohn Iowa Business Plan Competition Receiving first place in the competition and $25,000 is Body Viz, a company that creates software for 3-D visualization of MRI and CT medical image data to improve surgical planning.
