1 Jan. 20 lecture to focus on transformation of Buenos Aires between 1880 and 1950 Pablo Ben, assistant professor of Latin American history, will present "From City to Sin to Family Haven: the Transformation of Buenos Aires between 1880 and 1950." Ben will discuss how modern homosexual and heterosexual identities began to emerge.
2 UNI students to participate in Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service, Jan. 18 The American Democracy Project is sponsoring this day because part of the education of students is learning to be civically engaged in their communities. Service on this day reflects Rev. King's dream of making our country a better place for all.
3 UNI to hold second-annual town hall meeting on diversity The meeting is a way to further advance efforts by sharing the university's diversity definition, vision and mission as well as its strategic priorities and the key performance indicators to guide the university as it moves forward.
4 UNI's CME to host discussions in tribute to Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. Rufus Burrow, Jr., Indiana professor of Christian thought and professor of theological social ethics at Christian Theological Seminary in Indianapolis, will discuss his book, "Martin Lucher King, Jr. for Armchair Theologians" at the Book Club meeting.
5 UNI's Tallgrass Prairie Center to hold roadside prairie plantings and pollinator conservation seminar Jennifer Hopwood, associated with the Xerces Society for Invertebrate Conservation, will share her research concerning bee populations in restored roadside prairies. She will discuss how roadside pprairie reconstruction can help conserve these pollinators
6 University of Northern Iowa announces first round of reorganization plans Effective July 1, 2010 Marketing & Advancement Division will be dissolved, eliminating one university vice president position. Bill Calhoun, current vice president and president of the UNI Foundation, will remain as president of the Foundation.
