1 2010 Iowa Energy Poster Contest winners to be honored at Iowa Capitol March 24; UNI CEEE event drew record number of entries The contest drew 1,288 qualified posters from first- through sixth- grade students from more than 90 schools. Winners will be honored at an award ceremony at the Iowa Capitol, where they'll each receive a plaque and a $100 Savings Bond. Winners listed.
2 K-12 groups to make T-shirts with UNI graphic communications students The younger students will put the ink on their T-shirts by ulling a squeegee across a screen set up by UNI students. Older studens will help the younger ones remove the shirt from the press and place it in a special dryer so it will be ready to take home.
3 Performance artist Marilyn Arsem to lecture at UNI Arsem is the founder of Mobius, Inc., a Boston-based interdisciplinary collaborative of artists. She is a full-time faculty member at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, where she teaches performance art.
4 Performance artist Marilyn Arsem to lecture at UNI Marilyn Arsem has been creating live events since 1975, ranging from solo performances to large-scale works presented at festivals, alternative spaces, galleries, museums, conferences and universities throughout North and South America, Europe and Asia.
5 Register now for UNI workshop on supporting employees after restructuring or downsizing a business; Enrollment deadline is March 26 The management workshop "Who's Next? How to Support Employees after a Business Restructuring," will be held April 6. Participants will examine the aftermath of a company downsizing or restructuring and outline reinforcements that will aid the employees.
6 Speaker to present strategies to improve water quality, reduce flood-flow; Ecolotree founder and president to present March 23 at CEEE Louis Licht will present "Solving for Water Quality & Flood Flow Reduction." Licht's strategy is planting a new perennial crop, such as poplar and willow, sa one way to conert enough watershed to reduce risks.
7 UNI students from Individual Events team qualify for national tournament; Team to host spring showcase March 24 Seven members have qualified for the American Forensics Association to be held at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Clair in April. In preparation for the tournament, members of the team will participate in the annual IE spring showcase. Members are listed.
