1 Jane Elliott to deliver diversity lecture at UNI Elliott will discuss her belief that prejudice is nothing more than an emotional commitment to ignorance and the best answer to ignorance is education. Elliott is an internationally known teacher, lecturer, and diversity trainer.
2 Solar & Energy Efficiency Tour to be held Oct. 3 Solar hot water systems, photovoltaics (solar electric), ground source heat pumps, weatherization, energy efficiency, and green building in homes and businesses are featured in the Cedar Valley Solar & Energy Efficiency Tour.
3 UNI announces free jazz concerts on Mondays The "Four-Letter Word: Jazz" series, organized by Michael Conrad, a music education jazz and composition theory major from Cedar Falls, features various musicians from the School of Music. Anyone who wishes to perform can sign up in Russell Hall.
4 UNI dance troupes to perform Orchesis will perform a variety of contemporary pieces, ranging from jazz to modern styles. The International Dance Theatre will perform traditional styles like clogging, ballroom, and Scottish dancing.
5 UNI Reading Recovery Center receives U. S. Department of Education grant The grant awarded $3,096,000 to the Reading Recovery Center. More than 10,000 Iowa first graders who struggle to read, will receive intense literacy assistance in the next five years. The R. J. McElroy Trust supplied $150,000 towards its matching funds.
6 UNI to host research and development education summit The purpose of the summit is to discuss four national research and development schools. Sharon Robinson, president and CEO of the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (AACTE), will be the guest speaker.
