Presidential candidate Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) came to UNI while on her "Weekend of Action." The rally was held in the West Gym and over 700 UNI students attended. Warren spoke on what led her into politics and how that experience changed her mind about economics. 3 Candidate Tom Steyer visits UNI

Presidential Candidate Tom Steyer came to UNI and held a discussion with faculty, UNI students, and community members at Maucker Union. Around 30 people were in attendance, a smaller gathering compared to other rallies at the college. Steyer asked those in attendance to tell him what they were most concerned about and then responded to them all. He shared his plans and ideas for the future; photo.
4 Julian Castro to visit UNI campus

Presidential candidate Julian Castro, former U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, will visit the Cedar Valley during a meet and Greet in the West Gym Courtyard on October 22. This event will be co-hosted by the Northern Iowa Democrats and UNIdos (UNI Hispanic Latino Student Union).

6 The value of sports and teamwork

Horning writes about the benefits of sports for building teamwork. In the author's opinion, these teamwork skills are valuable for life and can be transitioned to the larger world. Sports both create challenges and teach participants that challenges can be overcome; they also unify people together for a cause; photo.

7 IJM hosts 'Threads' thrift store
McGuill--Lauren (Student--2019), Leitner--Gabrielle (Class of 2020)
UNI's International Justice Mission (IJM) hosted a pop-up thrift store called "Threads" at the Maucker Union Ballroom. The goal of this activity was to not only raise funds for human trafficking but also to spread awareness of human trafficking around the world. Iowa especially has a strong human trafficking scene due to the two major interstates that run through the state, with 38 cases reported in 2019 so far; photos.
8 Women's Chorus, Glee Club perform
Legaspi--Sofia (Class of 2020), Fortmann--Toni (Class of 2022)
The Women's Chorus and Varsity Glee Club performed a Spotlight Series concert at the Gallagher Bluedorn Performing Arts Center (GBPAC). Both sections sang a wide variety of songs with both groups doing a piece in Spanish in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month. At the end of the performance, John Wiles, director of the Glee Club, invited audience members to join either group; photos.

9 Panther Portrait: Orchesis & IDT Show
Maas--Emma'le (Student--2019)
The UNI Dance Program kicked off Family Weekend festivities with its annual fall showcase. The sister dance companies Orchesis and International Dance Theatre (IDT) performed in the Bengtson Auditorium at Russell Hall. The showcase held performances ranging from tap dancing to hip-hop to traditional Russian folk dance. Many of the performances were choreographed by the students themselves.

The UNI women's soccer team lost to Drake, 2-0, and Missouri State, 2-1. This dropped them to 5-9 overall. In their conference, they are 1-4 with only two match ups left for the season; photo.

Women's volleyball defeated the Loyola-Chicago Ramblers, 3-1, advancing to 14-9 on the season and 8-1 in the Missouri Valley Conference; photo.
