2	Mark Grey discusses immigration in Iowa	Mexican immigration exploded in the early 1990's. Mexicans cross the border because of the lack of jobs, poor education, and because following the passage of the North American Free Trade Act, farmers could not compete; photo.
2	NISG prepares students for upcoming Regents Day	March 7 students from the Regents institutions will travel to Des Moines to lobby for higher education funding. Nearly one hundred ninety U. N. I. students will attend. NISG is holding training sessions prior to the trip.
2	E. Patrick Johnson's appearance in Hearst Lecture series rescheduled	March 8 is the new date for presentation based on the book, "Sweet Tea". Johnson is a professor and chair of the Department of Performance Studies and professor of African American Studies at Northwestern.
3	HSAB sponsors 'Tearing it UP: The Aftermath'	A phone call from former students prompted Jay Lees, Julie Lowell, and Sarah Stubbe to travel to Parkersburg after the tornado. Over fifty hours of film were shot as the basis of a documentary; photo.
5	UNI hosts annual African-American Read-In	First graders from Price Lab and Waterloo schools packed the Maucker Union Ballroom to learn about African-American history. Over 425 students attended; photo.
5	Violence prevention educators urge students to be cautious during spring break	Spring break is only a week away. Students urged to travel in groups, not to take drinks from strangers, and know how much alcohol they have consumed; photo.
5	'Cedar Rapids' adds to the collection of Iowa film classics	The movie, 'Cedar Rapids', is reviewed.
6	Graduate Student Highlights	Fred Silva moved to the United States to attend high school. He will graduate from U. N. I. in the spring with a degree in the student affairs program. He currently works full time in international admissions; photo.

9	Fellow Panthers	Former candidate for president of the student body expressed disappointment in the election process, but will not call for a recount. Election reform and oversight are needed.
9	'Because I want to"	Students need to take the responsibility to be prepared with best knowledge needed to make safe decisions. Getting tested for sexual transmitted disease and practicing safe sex are basic pieces of information needed.
9	Mistakes were made	Misspelled words, the lack of a comma, and improper counting of votes have recently happened to the NI staff and the NISG election commission. Luckily students point out these mistakes, so they may be corrected.
10	Paths and expectations	The college experience is not the same for all students. All professors do not wear tweed jackets and all students do not spend hours and hours in local bars. Get involved and do your own thing. Make your own choices.
10	Black and White Ball	Everyone is invited to attend the dance, sponsored by the Hispanic Latino Student Union. Students urged to interact with those from different cultures. Interacting is a way of learning about each other.
10	Survey Cards	The Southwestern Company distributes survey cards before and during class periods. Rather than an internship, this company hires students to sell their products door to door. This tactic is questioned and not appreciated.
11	An end to gender, at least in my mind	A revealing moment in a person's life. Readers urged to embrace the talents and gifts that people around us bring to us. We are accountable for our deeds.
12	UNI heads to St. Louis to defend their MVC Tournament crown	Men's basketball team will play Creighton in a first round game. The teams split games during the season with each winning on their home court; photo.
12	UNI's Nowak is a multi-talented track and field athlete	Olimpia Nowak is from Rawicz, Poland. Her goals for this track season include; one of the top three teams in men's and women's conference championships, score 4100 in the pentathlon, and 5700 in the heptathlon; photo.
