University of Northern Iowa working to bring disadvantaged students to college through "TRIO" programs; national TRIO day is Feb. 24.

TRIO programs are aimed at first generation, low income students. At Northern Iowa, four distinct programs make up the university's TRIO package. TRIO was created by the Johnson administration in 1965 as a part of his "war on poverty."
