10/5/2020 Cayman Islands Classic, one of the most prestigious pre-season basketball tournaments, has been cancelled for the 2020-21 season due to COVID-19 precautions and the shift of the NCAA season. Pre-season tournaments allow coaches to scout for players for Selection Sunday but due to the cancellation, this selection process will be more difficult for the 2021-22 year.

The Valley has earned its reputation to be taken seriously come March Madness. All year, Northern Iowa has proven themselves to be the cream of the crop in the Valley. While many around the league agree that the Panthers are one the top teams in the Valley this season, the scheduling in the conference is one of the most grueling in the nation. 12/12/2019 The men's basketball team has been rolling through their competition so far this season. turning heads after finishing last season with a 16-18 record. Fast forward nine months, the Purple and Gold are off to a 9-1 start with a top 25 upset over Colorado under their belt A.J. Green hit a clutch three-pointer with one minute left to play, tying the game at 76. Spencer Haldeman came up with a big steal that resulted in a layup to put UNI ahead 78-76 with 45 seconds remaining. The Panthers were able to finish off their night with a 79-76 upset over Colorado, their first win over a ranked team since 2016.

10/7/2019 Former starting point guard for the 2010 Sweet 16 team Kwadzo Ahelegbe realized a dream come true in 2016 when he became a video coordinator for the Minnesota Timberwolves. Ahelegbe is working his way up, as he was promoted to assistant video coordinator/player development for the team. Ahelegbe was an integral part of the 2010 Sweet 16 team, which was inducted into the UNI Athletics Hall of Fame on Saturday, September 21.

9/19/2019 UNI basketball legends such as Ali Farorkhmanesh, Adam Koch, Kwadzo Ahelegbe, and the other members of the Sweet 16 team of 2009-2020 will be returning to UNI to be inducted into the UNI Hall of Fame. In 2019-2010, the men's basketball team beat the Kansas Jayhawks with Farorkhmanesh's shooting a three-point shot in the final thirty-five seconds of the game. Although the team fell short of the Elite Eight when they lost to Michigan State.

The Panthers were up against the North Dakota State Jackrabbits and from the get go, could not get an offensive footing. Panthers lost 82-50. Author credits sophomore guard Trae Berhow with being the only Panther who created any offence.
