Sarah Rassing, a graduate student and NISG Director of Mental Health helped coordinate the events to hopefully make this annual. Brian Nissen emphasizes the importance of students to the university, as well as Jennifer Schneiderman, director of counseling services at UNI helps students know the help campus provides. 11/14/2019 More than 200 students, faculty, and community members attended a town hall hosted by the UNI Racial and Ethnic Coalition (REC) at Maucker Union. The REC started with a summary of the REC, actions UNI has taken, and inaction that UNI has failed to meet. It was also a way for the REC to get their message out into the community and to tell their stories and to have audience members tell their stories. The meeting called for everyone in attendance to take action. Related to this article was REC, students from Iowa, and ISU attend the Board of Regents Meeting. In coordination with similar student organizations from Universities across Iowa, members of REC attended the public comment portion of the Board of Regents committee meeting. REC member Gisselle Hererra delivered a statement on behalf of the REC, addressing the Board of Regents executives and representatives from Iowa's public universities. She ended her speech by asking if the executives and representatives would be willing to meet twice and both times she was met with silence; photo.

8/29/2019 The Center of Multicultural Education held their beginning of the school year event at Maucker Union on August 26, 2019. They held a BBQ and a host of other food from different cultures. President of UNI, Mark Nook, attended the event and was happy to see the campus full of people/students once more. Other foundations and campus organizations attended the event and spoke of the up coming school year fondly.
