He received this award due to his off the field passion to mentor and inspire underprivileged youth. This recognition was given out by the Institute for Sport and Social Justice. Wells works as a volunteer youth mentor with the Juvenile Court Services in Waterloo and at the Central Iowa Juvenile Detention Center.
