1 Marengo, Ill. Native selects University of Northern Iowa for its accounting program but receives much more. Christine Schmid finds the people at Northern Iowa to be friendly. She has been president of Edelweiss House in Campbell Hall for two years. Schmid was named to UNI's Dean's list for the Fall 1989 semester, is the advertising chair in the Phi Beta Lambda.
2 Two Northern Iowa students work to help their peers through "TRIO" programs. Rochelle Clinton lobbied for funds for TRIO programs. For the past two years she has attended the Mid America Equal Opportunity Program Personnel conference. Leticia Sanchez has worked as a secretary with TRIO for all four of her years at Northern Iowa.
3 UNI sophomore from Davenport volunteers in student services. Rochelle Clinton has worked for two years with the office of Student Support Services, attending national conferences and bringing home the information to her co-workers.
4 University of Northern Iowa working to bring disadvantaged students to college through "TRIO" programs; national TRIO day is Feb. 24. TRIO programs are aimed at first generation, low income students. At Northern Iowa, four distinct programs make up the university's TRIO package. TRIO was created by the Johnson administration in 1965 as a part of his "war on poverty."
