30 Mary Esther Spitzmiller Married Harold W. Hutchcroft, on December 27, 1945. Mary taught kindergarten at North Oak Junior High School in Burlington, Iowa. They will reside in Mediapolis, Iowa.
30 Ida Schroeder Married Alvin J. Schultz, on November 10, 1945. They will reside in Muscatine, Iowa, where he is a fireman in the Muscatine Fire Department. For the past three years, Ida has been teaching art in the Van Buren Grade School of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
30 Faye M. Seamer Married Otto T. Noeding on February 8, 1946; reside in Albuquerque, where Otto is doing graduate work at the University of New Mexico. Faye is working toward her degree. Before marriage, Faye taught in Iowa schools for three years.
30 Grace Ann Searles Married Clarence H. Garland, on September 22, 1945, and reside in Racine, Wisconsin. Following graduation, Grace taught at Independence in the junior high school.
31 Lieutenant Commander and Mrs. Benjamin F. Poduska, (Clara Kieswetter) Announce the birth of a son, Karl Eric. This is their second son. Clara and children reside in Marshalltown, Iowa, while Lt. Comdr. Poduska is on sea duty.
31 The Reverend and Mrs. C. W. Shedd, (Martha B. Petersen) Announce the birth of a daughter, Karen Marie. They reside in Lexington, Nebraska.
31 Mr. and Mrs. John D. Stiffler, (Bernice E. Burrichter) Announce the birth of a daughter, Joanne Arlene. They reside on a farm near Monticello, Iowa.
31 Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Temple, (Elsie Strong) Albert L. Strong Thomas and Elsie announce the birth of a daughter, Mary Louise. Elsie, a sister of Albert L. Strong, taught in North Dakota and Montana prior to her marriage. They have two older children, Donald and William; and reside in Ponderoy, Idaho.
31 Mr. and Mrs. Peter Tisei, (Jean Starts) Announce the birth of a daughter, Maria Francesca. They live in Oklahoma City. Prior to her marriage, Jean taught the primary grades in Atlantic, Iowa.
31 Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Warden, (Pearl Steveson) Announce the birth of a son, Steven Wallace. They have one daughter, Ruth Ella, and live on a farm near Melbourne, Iowa.
31 Mr. and Mrs. Edward J. Wilkans, (Jessie Wallace) Announce the birth of a daughter, Diann Cynthia. They have two older daughters; reside at Alexander, Iowa.
31 Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Kortman, (Burnita Nielsen) Announce the birth of a son, Clarence John. They reside at Charter Oak, Iowa, where Clarence is in the implement business.
31 Mr. and Mrs. J. Robert Leahy, (Geraldine Frances McBride) Residing in Cedar Falls, announce the birth of a son, Kenneth James. They have another child, Mary Patrice. Geraldine taught at Holy Cross School, Omaha, Nebraska and Urbana, Missouri Valley, and Springfield, Illinois.
31 Mr. and Mrs. George T. McCartan, (Lillian Ida Knudsen) Residing at Pocahontas, Iowa, announce the birth of a son, George Thomas.
31 Mr. and Mrs. Harold F. Saeger, (Marjorie Sheffler) Announce the birth of a son, James Harold. Marjorie taught dramatics in 1941-43 at Manchester, Iowa, and English in 1943-44 at Milbank, South Dakota.
31 Mr. and Mrs. Winfrid Salisbury, (Elvera Holland) Announce the birth of a daughter, Monica Ann. They live at Auburn, Iowa. After graduation, Elvera taught the seventh and eighth grades at Lamoille, Iowa.
31 Mr. and Mrs. Harlan H. Goldsmith Announce the birth of a daughter, Dona Rae. Harlan received his discharge from service, December 1, 1945.
31 Mr. and Mrs. Harley J. Hanson, (Ruth McMillin) Announce the birth of their daughter, Rita Marie. Harley was recently discharged from the Navy and they reside at Ruthven, where he is employed at the Ruthven Co-operative Elevator. Ruth taught at Prescott and Ruthven, Iowa, prior to her marriage.
31 Mr. and Mrs. Orvin Iverson, (Esther Blesie) Announce the birth of a son, James Orvin. They have another son, David Bruce, and reside in St. Paul, Minnesota. Orvin is in the mail service working as foot carrier in St. Paul.
31 Mr. and Mrs. Paul K. Jackson, (Shirley Gilbert) Residing at Bon Air, Virginia., announce the birth of a daughter, Kay Anne.
31 Major and Mrs. Arnold G. H. Bode, (Betty J. Margadant) Announce the birth of a son, William Arnold. Betty taught in Mallard, Iowa, prior to her marriage. She resides in Pasadena, California, while Major Bode is in service in the Philippine Islands.
31 Mr. and Mrs. Harold Boyenga, (Marjorie Eckhoff) Announce the birth of twin daughters, Judith Rae and Joyce Hope. Harold is stationed at Great Lakes, Illinois, as a recruit instructor and Marjorie is at her parents' home in Steamboat Rock, Iowa.
31 Mr. and Mrs. Herman Engemann, (Robina Josephine Miller) Of Harlan, Iowa, announce the birth of twins, Donna Lea and Donald Leo. They have another daughter.
32 Esther Lucille Brown Of Dumont, Iowa, died October 6, 1945, at Boulder, Colorado. Esther taught in Waverly, Iowa, Winchester, Mass., and since 1930 in the schools at Santa Monica, California; was on leave of absence from the Santa Monica schools.
32 Max Garth Miller Died May 17, 1945, at his home in Seattle, Washington. Following his graduation, he was employed in the Illinois Research Hospital in Chicago. In 1943, he went to Seattle where he operated a café.
32 Dell Minger Died December 6, 1945, at her home in West Bend, Iowa, where she had taught for the past 35 years. She is survived by one brother and one sister.
32 LaVerlle Long Daughter of David K. Long, of Algona, Iowa, was killed in an automobile accident, January 15, 1946, at Albert Lea, Minnesota. LaVerlle had been teaching at Albert Lea.
32 Mrs. Kathryn Sawyer Mornin Died December 6, at her home in Pasadena, California; taught primary grades in Waterloo and in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Surviving are two sisters, Sedalia Clark and Cora Snyder, and two brothers, Will and Walter Sawyer, all of California.
32 Catherine M. Harris Died July 14, 1945, at her sister's home in Hopkins, Missouri. Catherine has taught in the public schools of Largo and Leith, North Dakota, and in Gladstone, Michigan.
32 Clarence A. Steelsmith Died January 7, 1946, in Walla Walla, Washington. He taught at Jefferson, Iowa, and in Minnesota and Idaho. In 1918, he began work as head and supervisor of manual arts in Walla Walla. He married Hilda Spalding in 1912 and they had one child, Kathryn.
32 Mrs. James A. Wand, (Gertrude Dautremont) Died at her home in Melrose, Iowa, September 27, 1945. Prior to her marriage she taught in the schools of Riverside and Monticello, Iowa. In 1934, she was appointed postmistress at Melrose. Two sons, Richard and James, and a daughter, Loraine, survive.
32 Mrs. E. W. Bentzien, (Emma Eighme) Died August 21, 1945, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. After graduation she taught in Rockwell City, Iowa. In 1914, she married E. W., who, with an only daughter, Carol Griffin, survive.
32 Ray L. Crouse Died October 29, 1945. He is survived by his widow, the former Ella McClain, and two sons, John and Eugene. Ella resides in Manhattan Beach, California.
32 Mrs. W. J. Dallas, (Eva F. Moffett) Died, August 4, 1945, at her home in Mechanicsville, Iowa. Surviving are one son, William, a step-son, Don, and a stepdaughter, Mary. Her husband followed her in death in November.
32 Jacob O. Belz Died December 19, 1945, at his home in Falls Church, Virginia.; served in the 49th Iowa Infantry in the Spanish-American War. From 1904 until retirement in 1938, he was in the U. S. Bureau of Plant Industry, as staff associate of biophysical research.
32 Mrs. Channing Smith, (Margaret Turner) Died in December 1945, at her home in Granger, Iowa. She married Dr. Smith in 1901. She is survived by her husband and four children: Dr. Elmer Smith and Channing Smith; Dr. Robert Smith; and Margaret Fitzpatrick; two sisters and one brother.
32 George F. Eckhard Died December 21, 1945, at his home in Burlington, Vermont. He was dean of the University of Vermont College of Engineering since 1932. Surviving are his wife, a daughter, and two sisters.
32 Mrs. Mathilda Palmer Schooler Died June 23, 1945, at her home in Marshalltown, Iowa. She married in 1883. She is survived by one daughter, (R. C. Griffith) of Omaha; a brother, Charles W. Palmer, New York City, and a granddaughter, (Douglas F. Lindsey) of Omaha.
32 Mrs. Archer E. Clarke, (Grace Bixby) Died April 29, 1945, at San Jose, California, where she had made her home since 1927. She is survived by a son, Louis A. Clarke, Brawley, California.
