To become a member a student must hold a major staff position for one year on either the Old Gold or the College Eye staffs. The organization is sponsored by Mr. Bernard DeHoff.

6/1/1960 Students who made outstanding records at TC, both scholastic and extracurricular activities, were honored at the annual Honors Convocation. Scholarships were awarded to outstanding students. Dr. Lymen Harris spoke on "Man's Quest for Mastery." The A Cappella Choir provided musical ambiance. Fallowing the ceremony, parents and students held a reception in the Georgian Lounge.

The students had showcases multiple times through out the year and are promoted by the Industrial Arts Club and the Majors' Wives Club.

6/1/1960 The Department of Languages, Speech and Literature presented in the spring 'Julius Caesar.' Bill Becvar played Caesar and Bob Helland as Brutus transported the TC audience back to Ancient Rome. The lighting, setting, and sound all added a great deal to this "DeMille type" spectacular.

6/1/1960 The Kappa Pi fraternity is the honorary art fraternity. This year, the organization had it's members donate art for a Christmas art sale at the Cedar Falls Art Gallery and a portion of the proceeds were donated. Kappa Pi is one of the newest fraternities on campus.
311 Katharine Cornell in "Dear Liar"

6/1/1960 The TC audience had the opportunity to see "Dear Liar" during its pre-Broadway run as the first show of the Lecture-Concert Series of the season. The play is based on the correspondence between George Bernard Shaw and the famous Irish Actress, Mrs. Patrick Campbell. Played by Katharine Cornell and Brian Aherne, this comedic love affair featured no set, costumes, or make-up. Thus allowing the imagination to portray aging characters since the letters spanned over 40 years.
312 Lambda Delta Lambda is Among Oldest Fraternities

6/1/1960 Lambda Delta Lambda is an honor society for physical science students and one of the oldest fraternities on campus. The group is sponsored by Dr. J. W. Kercheval of the science department and Kenneth Bridges is the president of the organization.

314 Lawther Houses Overflow

6/1/1960 Lawther Hall was traditionally a dorm for sophomore women and can house appropriately 400 girls. This year, one-fourth of the residents were sophomores due to overcrowded conditions. The hall performed a verity of event over the course of the year and supported fundraisers. Lawther also received automatic washers and drawers as the year began.

316 Marching Band Gets New Uniforms

6/1/1960 This year, the TC Marching Band made their debut with new outfits. They showed them off at every home football game where they performed under the direction of Don Wendt during the halftime demonstration. The marchers were hosts to visiting high school bands at the annual Band Day held on campus in the fall.

The event highlight was the plans to raise standards at the college to better prepare students for life after college. 6/1/1960 The Homecoming play was 'Morning's at Seven.' It tells the tale of complicated family relationships and the problems life brings. Written by Paul Osborne, this play is rather interesting due to the youngest character being middle-aged and the rest older than that. It was a delightful drama.

6/1/1960 The traditional tapping of the new members of Purple Arrow, Chimes, and Torch and Tassel began the annual Woman's Day celebrations. During the event Joyce McLennon replaced Dr. Mavis Holmes as Associate Dean of Students for the day. Other students took over other positions through out the women's dorms. On Mother's Day, Mrs. Aruo Uskallio, mother of Pauline Uskallio, was chosen as Mother of the day on the basis of Pauline's achievements.

6/1/1960 The Men's Union is an organization of all men students on campus work to enlarge the opportunities for men to develop the campus and community. The MU organized many events through out the year with highlights being the annual style show co-sponsored with the AWS and men's intramural. The main features was the relay competition between houses and a beard-growing contest. MU also sponsors a number of scholarships and extracurriculars.

This fraternity hosts the musically inclined and the members are active participants of the performing arts. 6/1/1960 The Homecoming Parade was a success TC's marching band and other campus groups made their way down the procession. The Homecoming Queen, Shirley Petersen, lead her court of four other girls; Mary Kaye Stringer, Shirley Radeke, Mary Paulk, and Jo Noble; Photos. The girls joined the audiences during the football game versus North Dakota University and cheered when TC won 14-9. Other special events that made up the week was the verity shows, Inter-Fraternity sing, and the Bartlett girls football game. The most looked foreword to event was the Homecoming Dance where students got to dress up and Jules Herman and his band would provide musical assistance.
