Article Summary | More than 200 students, faculty, and community members attended a town hall hosted by the UNI Racial and Ethnic Coalition (REC) at Maucker Union. The REC started with a summary of the REC, actions UNI has taken, and inaction that UNI has failed to meet. It was also a way for the REC to get their message out into the community and to tell their stories and to have audience members tell their stories. The meeting called for everyone in attendance to take action. Related to this article was REC, students from Iowa, and ISU attend the Board of Regents Meeting. In coordination with similar student organizations from Universities across Iowa, members of REC attended the public comment portion of the Board of Regents committee meeting. REC member Gisselle Hererra delivered a statement on behalf of the REC, addressing the Board of Regents executives and representatives from Iowa's public universities. She ended her speech by asking if the executives and representatives would be willing to meet twice and both times she was met with silence; photo. |
