On February 3, the UNI Muslim Students Association celebrated World Hijab Day and encouraged people of all backgrounds and religions to wear them. Founded in 2013 by Nazma Khan, World Hijab Day has been celebrated on February 1 in over 140 countries. UNI's first "Arctic Day" was held on January 31 in conjunction with the launch of University of the Arctic (UArctic) and the ARCTICenter on campus. The center held a launch and information in Rod Library followed by scholar Tatiana Egorova's presentation "The Peoples of Frozen II: the Saami Culture in the Arctic" in the Innovative Teaching and Technology Center (ITTC). Its goal is to provide research and education about the North.
