2/13/2020 UNI English Professors Jim O'Loughlin and Julie Husband met as doctoral students at the State University of New York (SUNY) at Buffalo in September of 1992. O'Loughlin was drawn to Husband because of her intelligence and warmth. Husband was drawn to O'Loughlin because of the kind way he interacted with people including her nephews. Few people enjoy working and learning alongside their partner, but this couple has done so for over 20 years.

1/27/2020 Christopher's Very Happy Band (CVH.B) preformed in Russell Hall's Bengtson Auditorium featuring jazz compositions from their second album. The bands intention is to make jazz a comfortable listening experience for all. CVH.B's band members consist of Christopher Merz, Mike Conrad, both UNI Music Staff and UNI Alumni. 10 Packing the Dome for MLK Day

1/23/2020 Around 1,500 volunteers gathered at the UNI-Dome on Martin Luther King Jr. National Day of Service. The year before Northwest Iowa Food Bank packed and provided over 125,000 bags, this attendance is double of what last years was. All of the UNI athletics joined in on the volunteer day. The event was held in the UNI-Dome rather then Maucker Union due to to John Deere sponsoring the event; photo.
11 Library exhibit explores WWI impact

1/16/2020 A special exhibition titled "World War I: Lessons and Legacies" is on display in the Rod Library Learning Commons now through Saturday, February 15. A series of eight posters explore the history of the war and its legacy in the United States. The poster exhibit appears courtesy of the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service, National Museum of American History, and is funded by the U.S. World War I Centennial Commission and Smithsonian Women's Committee. Several World War I artifacts are on display from the UNI Museum, along with documents and photos from Special Collections and University Archives. Two lectures will be hosted, both in LIB 301. One given by Associate History Professor Emily Machen the other by Associate History Professor Thomas Connors.

12/12/2019 Finals approach UNI and the Student Wellness Services hosted their bi-annual De-Stress Days at Maucker Union. Students have the opportunity to color, do puzzles, write positive notes, etc. At the Rod Library, students have the opportunity to gather at the Learning Commons and meet P.E.T. P.A.L.S. P.E.T. P.A.L.S. is a service that trains emotional support and service animals. They will be bringing service animals trained specifically to relieve stress to Rod Library so that students can interact with them; photo.

11/21/2019 The Northern Iowan came together and put out three of their favorite holiday recipes. The best part was that each dish could easily be made in the dorms with no cooking appliances necessary. The recipes were Pumpkin Parfaits, Cranberry Feta Pinwheels, No-Bake Ginger Cookies. and Spinach Artichoke Dip.

The ISSO is asking for gently used winter clothing. 11/7/2019 Grace Mertz is a graduate student at UNI specializing in auto-ethnographic performance. For her thesis, she had written a one-(wo)man play about her life as an undergrad and graduate student and how writing letters to God has helped her. Mertz hopes that her play will help other academics see that religion can have a place in academics and can also be a good influence opposed to the usual negative lens that most academics see through.

10/7/2019 Three buildings on College Hill have a new look after a wheat-pasting project was completed last week. Volunteer crews pasted five huge images onto the exterior walls in the district on Thursday, October 5, and Friday, October 4. The images were taken from Fortepan Iowa, an online archive of digitized photos based in Rod Library that launched in 2015. Photos in the Iowa archive , all of which are donated, are carefully curated to represent everyday life in Iowa in the 19th and 20th centuries; photo.

Hannah-Jones told the audience she would "be going a bit rogue" and would not be speaking on school segregation, but instead on the 1619 project. 9/16/2019 On September 21, 2019, the Panther Marching Band (PMB) will perform an Earth, Wind, & Fire halftime show in the UNI Dome during the football game against Idaho State. With 516 members, PMB is the largest student organization at UNI. According to the PMB website, students represent 79 different majors, with over one-third of its membership being non-music majors. The show will be performed in collaboration with BYOBrass, a UNI based band founded in 2017.

9/16/2019 During the "Prairie Rendezvous" event to celebrate the retirement of Dr. Daryl Smith, the Tallgrass Prairie was renamed after him. Many speakers spoke at the Rendezvous, such as President Mark Nook. The prairie was also one of the first reconstructed prairies in Iowa; photo.

9/9/2019 Investigative Reporter Nikole Hannah-Jones came to UNI to speak at the Constitution Day Adress. Her speech promoted the 1619 Project and spoke about the serious issue that America faces concerning racism and the legacy of slavery. She pointed out certain laws that were in place years before her birth that hindered her parents and she pointed out the hypocrisy of how African-Americans were treated in the founding of America to present day and the liberties they and other minorities are denied due to their skin tone, sex, occupation, and sexual orientation.

8/29/2019 The Center of Multicultural Education held their beginning of the school year event at Maucker Union on August 26, 2019. They held a BBQ and a host of other food from different cultures. President of UNI, Mark Nook, attended the event and was happy to see the campus full of people/students once more. Other foundations and campus organizations attended the event and spoke of the up coming school year fondly.

8/29/2019 Rod Library and The Learning Center invite students to "Get Social @ Rod Library" on Wednesday, September 4 in the Learning Commons from 3:30 to 5:30 pm. The event offers opportunities to win prizes, meet library staff, and learn about library resources. Throughout the afternoon, the Book Bistro will be offering free cookies, coffee, and Coca Cola product samples. The Digital Media Hub will also be demonstrating equipment that is available for checkout. This event is equivalent to Rod Library's usual "Rock the Stacks" event from previous years.
