4/12/2021 On April 4, one person was injured on College hill when his own firearm accidentally discharged, and investigators found several firearms and arrested two people on charges unrelated to the shooting. The article discusses aggravated assaults and gun violence on or near campus that have taken place in the past five years. Cedar Valley residents and UNI students have expressed concern and protested increases in gun violence. Many expect an increase in gun-related incidents after Governor Reynolds signed a new permitless gun carrying law into effect at the beginning of the month; photo.

Students, faculty, and staff are asked to complete a Panther Health Check survey. University President Mark Nook emailed students concerning crowds of students visiting off-campus areas and not following Covid protocols, actions which could be subject to discipline on campus. The university began contact tracing and quarantine for students who have been exposed to or tested positive for Covid-19. 10/7/2019 Three buildings on College Hill have a new look after a wheat-pasting project was completed last week. Volunteer crews pasted five huge images onto the exterior walls in the district. The images were taken from Fortepan Iowa, an online archive of digitized photos based in Rod Library that launched in 2015. Photos in the Iowa archive, all of which are donated, are carefully curated to represent everyday life in Iowa in the 19th and 20th centuries; photo.
